Starting June 20, 2025, the fee for a marriage license in New Mexico will increase from $25.00 to $55.00. This change follows the passage of Senate Bill 290 (SB290), signed into law by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham on April 8, 2025.
Fee Breakdown:
The new $55.00 fee is distributed as follows:
- $20.00 to the County Clerk's Office for document preservation and technology improvements
- $20.00 to the Children's Trust Fund for child abuse prevention and support services
- $15.00 to the County General Fund
These updates help modernize local recordkeeping and invest in critical programs for families and communities

- Licenses issued prior to June 20, 2025 will remain valid, regardless of your ceremony date
- You can apply for a license in person at our office
- After your ceremony,, be sure to return the signed certificate for official recording
